UD Las Palmas and the Insular Institute of Sports have taken a decisive step with the publication of the bidding for the expansion and modernization works of the sports complex. The work must be completed by the summer of 2029 so that the island can enjoy the 2030 World Cup. The Sports Councilor of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Aridany Romero, highlighted that the actions in the East Tower are already in their final stretch. The remodeling will be developed in three phases, the first corresponds to the demolition work already initiated, the second phase corresponds to the bidding of the contract for the execution of the comprehensive reform works, and the third phase will be focused on the incorporation of the technologies that will equip the future stadium. The bidding will be carried out through an open procedure subject to harmonized European regulation, thus guaranteeing maximum competition, transparency, and free competition among interested companies. Companies interested in this contract have until next Tuesday, July 7 at 12:00 hours to submit offers through the State Contracting Platform. The total investment for the project is 174.7 million euros, and the expected execution period will be 36 months, although the reduction of the period to 30 months will be valued. The new stadium will have a roof, the capacity will be expanded from the current 32,418 to 44,020 spectators, and the facilities and accessibility will be improved. The goal is for the stadium to be ready for the 2030 World Cup and be an iconic place for the island of Gran Canaria. The news has been received with enthusiasm by UD Las Palmas fans, who hope that the new stadium will be a place where the team can shine and have success. The bidding is an important step towards achieving this goal, and it is expected that interested companies will submit competitive offers to carry out the project.
