UD Las Palmas kick off pre-season with group changes

UD Las Palmas began pre-season training under Rubén de la Barrera on Sunday with their first session at the Barranco Seco Sports City. Two key absences stood out: Croatian goalkeeper Dinko Horkas and Japanese forward Taisei Miyashiro were absent after the club granted them leave to complete administrative paperwork. Sandro Ramírez, Ale García, Álvaro Recoba and Abou Bassinga trained separately from the main group in their first contact with the Galician manager.

Why are Horkas and Miyashiro missing?

The club cited paperwork as the reason for Horkas and Miyashiro’s absence until next Wednesday. The Croatian goalkeeper, linked with a potential €10 million move to Celtic Glasgow, is also in personal contract negotiations that have delayed his full integration. Miyashiro, meanwhile, is finalizing migration paperwork after arriving from Japan. Both players could rejoin the squad within days if their administrative tasks are completed on time.

Sandro and four others train apart

Beyond the absences, the first pre-season day saw Sandro Ramírez, Ale García, Álvaro Recoba and Abou Bassinga working separately from the rest. Five players promoted from the youth team —Valentín Pezzolesi, Rafael Cruz, Carlos Navarro, Iván Medina and Elías Romero— joined the first-team dynamics alongside seven other academy players. Among them were Jerobe Cáceres, Víctor Villote and Kirian Ramírez, who completed the first session with the technical staff.

Intense schedule ahead of Marbella stage

UD Las Palmas faces a demanding week at Barranco Seco before traveling to Marbella on Monday for the second phase of pre-season. Daily sessions will run until Sunday at 10:30 a.m., except Tuesday and Thursday when de la Barrera has scheduled double sessions at 6:30 p.m. The squad includes up to 12 academy players in this initial phase, which will help assess fitness and adaptation to the new project under the Galician manager.
